Sleep Apnea

Obstructive sleep apnea is an ongoing condition that deprives the brain of oxygen during sleep. This is a fatal disease and can worsen other issues within the body. When breathing is paused or becomes shallow, one will often move out of deep sleep and into light sleep, making the quality of sleep poor.

Sleep apnea can be treated with lifestyle changes, mouthpieces, breathing devices, and/or surgery. Oral Appliance Therapy is often an effective alternative to CPAP (controlled positive airway pressure) for patients suffering from obstructive sleep apnea. Many patients suffering from sleep apnea can find relief using a custom removable oral appliance. This device adjusts the position of the lower jaw and tongue to minimize airway obstruction.

For moderate to severe sleep apnea, CPAP can be used in addition to a mandibular advancement device (MAD). CPAP can cause dry mouth, cavities and irritation of the face. Ask us how we can help you to change the way you sleep.
